In this contract role, you will work closely with a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student, serving as their 1:1 communication partner throughout the school day. Your expertise will ensure full participation and connection within both academic and social aspects of school life.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential
  • Prior experience interpreting in educational or similar environments is highly desirable
  • Confidence working 1:1 with students, facilitating inclusive communication
  • Understanding of the needs and sensitivities of DHH learners
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adaptability in a school setting
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Accompany the assigned DHH student in classrooms and activities from 7:45am to 2:45pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
  • Accurately interpret instruction, discussions, and social interactions between the student, teachers, and peers
  • Clarify information as needed to support the student's comprehension and engagement
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment
  • Serve as a language and communication advocate while maintaining boundaries and supporting the student’s independence
