Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
  • Completion of an interpreter training program or comparable coursework.
  • Hold appropriate national or state-level certification for ASL interpretation (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent preferred).
  • Prior experience interpreting in educational settings is strongly valued.
  • Clear understanding of student confidentiality, classroom etiquette, and diverse communication needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with students, teachers, and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate and effective interpretation services for students in classroom settings, extracurricular activities, and school meetings.
  • Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers to support learning and active inclusion.
  • Prepare in advance for lessons, adapting signing style and register as needed for different age groups and subjects.
  • Advocate for accessibility and communication needs as part of a supportive educational team.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to ethical standards for educational interpreters.
