Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Basehor, KS

Make a direct impact in the classroom by facilitating communication and supporting student success as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter. This contract position runs from ASAP through May 21st, 2027, with exciting potential for continued work during Extended School Year (ESY). You’ll be paired with a 4th grade student—an emerging ASL learner—providing essential language access throughout the school day.

The hours align with a traditional school schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. This opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about educational settings and committed to supporting learners who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Qualifications:

• Hold current licensure with the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing
• Possess an EIPA score of 4.0 or above
• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and able to model clear expressive and receptive skills
• Experience interpreting in educational environments, preferably at the elementary level
• Strong understanding of student confidentiality, inclusion, and classroom dynamics

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide interpreting services for a fourth grader who is new to ASL, ensuring full access to classroom instruction and interactions
• Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and support personnel to foster an inclusive learning environment
• Adapt interpreting techniques as needed to match the student’s growing language skills and support academic engagement
• Facilitate communication for the student during both instructional and extracurricular activities
• Maintain accurate records of interpreting services as required by school and district guidelines
