Make a meaningful impact supporting a young learner as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic K-12 environment. In this full-time contract role, you'll work closely with a 4th-grade student who is new to American Sign Language (ASL), providing essential communication access throughout their school day. This opportunity runs from now through the end of the academic year, with the potential for Extended School Year (ESY) services.
Key Qualifications:
- Current licensure from the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing (KCDHH) is required
- Proficient in ASL, with a solid grasp of vocabulary, grammar, and fingerspelling
- Experience interpreting for elementary-aged students preferred
- Ability to support emerging ASL learners with patience, encouragement, and clear communication
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to collaborative work with teachers, specialists, and families
Daily Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities from spoken English to ASL and vice versa
- Facilitate communication between the student and all school personnel, classmates, and peers
- Adapt interpreting methods to match the student’s evolving language skills
- Collaborate with educational staff to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment
- Maintain accurate records of services provided and participate in team meetings as needed
