Key Qualifications:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Demonstrated experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational or school setting
  • Ability to adapt interpreting styles to meet student age and communication needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with teachers, staff, and families
  • Familiarity with educational terminology and protocols
  • National or state interpreter certification preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) for students, teachers, and staff during classes, meetings, and school activities
  • Support student participation in academic, extracurricular, and social experiences
  • Facilitate clear communication in one-on-one and group settings, ensuring equitable access to instruction and interactions
  • Consult with special education staff and educators to provide best-in-class interpreting services
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Participate in IEP meetings and assist with related documentation as needed
