In this contract opportunity, you'll play a pivotal role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. This position focuses on kindergarten through 5th-grade students in a vibrant school community near Belvidere, IL. The role is full-time, offering 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a consistent schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Certified or licensed as a Sign Language Interpreter as required by state or local regulations
- Experience working in educational settings, especially with elementary-aged children, is highly valued
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student-focused support
- Ability to adapt to various interpreting scenarios within a school environment
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person sign language interpretation for students and staff, ensuring clear communication in classroom lessons, school activities, and one-on-one support
- Collaborate with educators, administrators, and other specialists to meet individual student needs
- Maintain ethical standards in accordance with professional guidelines and school district policies
- Prepare for lessons and school events in advance to ensure effective interpretation
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
