Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Berwyn, Illinois

Make a meaningful impact by supporting students in a diverse educational environment as a Sign Language Interpreter working with a satellite program serving grades 5-8. In this contract role, you'll provide interpreting services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students both in a specialized classroom setting and as they participate in mainstream general education classes and related services. School hours are from 8:15 am to 3:00 pm, offering a predictable weekday schedule.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiar with educational interpreting techniques
• Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in a school setting or with children is highly preferred
• Ability to adapt signing style to meet the unique communication needs of individual students
• Comfortable interpreting in both classroom and one-on-one settings, and during related service sessions (such as occupational therapy or social work)
• Reliable, punctual, and able to collaborate with teachers, staff, and service providers

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide interpreting services for DHH students during classes, group activities, and related service time
• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and peers in mainstream and specialized classroom environments
• Support students in grades 5-8, ensuring equitable access to educational content and full participation in classroom discussions
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times while fostering an inclusive and supportive educational experience
• Collaborate with educators to promote a rich learning atmosphere for all students
