Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant interpreting modes
- Prior experience providing sign language interpretation in school or pediatric settings
- Ability to work closely in a 1:1 capacity supporting learner needs
- Knowledge of educational terminology and curriculum adaptation techniques
- Comfortable collaborating with special education teams, teachers, and support staff
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Professional certification as an interpreter (preferred)
Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive sign language interpretation for a 10th-grade student in various class settings and activities
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, peers, and educators
- Adapt interpreting approaches to suit individual learning styles and needs
- Maintain student confidentiality and comply with district policies
- Monitor student comprehension and engagement, providing feedback to educational staff
- Participate in meetings and collaborate with the special education team to ensure consistent support
