Qualifications:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant interpreting modes
  • Prior experience providing sign language interpretation in school or pediatric settings
  • Ability to work closely in a 1:1 capacity supporting learner needs
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and curriculum adaptation techniques
  • Comfortable collaborating with special education teams, teachers, and support staff
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Professional certification as an interpreter (preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive sign language interpretation for a 10th-grade student in various class settings and activities
  • Facilitate effective communication between the student, peers, and educators
  • Adapt interpreting approaches to suit individual learning styles and needs
  • Maintain student confidentiality and comply with district policies
  • Monitor student comprehension and engagement, providing feedback to educational staff
  • Participate in meetings and collaborate with the special education team to ensure consistent support
