Sign Language Interpreter needed for a specialized one-on-one assignment with a 10th-grade student in a school setting. This contract position is based in Cambridge, MA and offers the chance to support a pediatric learner by facilitating effective communication and inclusivity within the educational environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct one-on-one sign language interpretation to a 10th-grade student in a school setting.
- Facilitate clear, accurate communication between the student, teachers, and peers.
- Support the student’s participation in classroom activities and social interactions.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional boundaries and ethical guidelines.
- Collaborate with educational staff to ensure accommodation needs are met.
- Adapt interpretation techniques to meet the evolving requirements of the student.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience interpreting for pediatric learners.
- Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational environment preferred.
- Ability to work effectively 1:1 with students requiring specialized communication support.
- Strong understanding of educational terminology and curriculum for secondary school levels.
- Patience, flexibility, and commitment to promoting inclusive education.
- Relevant certification or training in sign language interpretation is highly desirable.
