Key Qualifications:
- Valid registration under the SLI and Transliteration Registration Act
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- In-depth knowledge of the unique educational needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Licensed and certified to work as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting
- Ability to accurately interpret and transliterate between spoken English and ASL
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to follow complex instructions and collaborate effectively with educators and support staff
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time, precise ASL interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and activities
- Support a high school student who is Deaf or hard of hearing in comprehending course materials and participating fully in school life
- Collaborate with teachers and ancillary staff to provide seamless access to learning opportunities
- Assist with translation of written materials as needed to enhance student understanding
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Adapt interpreting style and support based on student needs and classroom context
