Key Qualifications:

  • Valid registration under the SLI and Transliteration Registration Act
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • In-depth knowledge of the unique educational needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Licensed and certified to work as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting
  • Ability to accurately interpret and transliterate between spoken English and ASL
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and collaborate effectively with educators and support staff

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver real-time, precise ASL interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and activities
  • Support a high school student who is Deaf or hard of hearing in comprehending course materials and participating fully in school life
  • Collaborate with teachers and ancillary staff to provide seamless access to learning opportunities
  • Assist with translation of written materials as needed to enhance student understanding
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Adapt interpreting style and support based on student needs and classroom context
