Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Carencro, LA

Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to an engaging, supportive elementary school environment. We are seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Paraprofessional to work closely with a deaf student, ensuring access to learning and social opportunities throughout the school day. This contract position offers the chance to make a lasting impact from 8:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, in a vibrant educational setting.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• EIPA score of 2.5 or higher, or completion of a related degree with demonstrated ASL fluency
• Ability to interpret live during the interview process
• Experience supporting deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals in educational environments preferred
• Patience, cultural sensitivity, and excellent communication skills
• Collaborative mindset to work with teachers and other staff

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct interpretation services for a deaf elementary student across academic and social settings
• Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and classmates
• Adapt signing to match the student’s language level and needs
• Support teachers in implementing classroom modifications
• Encourage participation and inclusion in a diverse school community
