Put your American Sign Language skills to work in an elementary school setting where you’ll have a direct impact on a student’s learning and well-being. This contract opportunity is designed for a fluent ASL professional ready to provide individualized 1:1 support to a young student who is deaf/hard of hearing and has mild cognitive delays. More than interpretation, this role is about encouragement, guidance, and ensuring the student feels seen, heard, and included every day.

- Provide hands-on educational and communication support, not just interpret group lessons
- Adapt, break down, and rephrase academic content to match the student’s comprehension
- Assist with attention, transitions, engagement, and emotional regulation
- Utilize visual supports (visual schedules, First-Then boards) and offer sensory breaks as needed
- Support the use of AAC/communication boards
- Encourage meaningful participation and help foster communication and peer connections
- Work alongside teachers, DHH staff, speech/AAC providers, and IEP team members to ensure a collaborative approach
- Maintain a warm, patient, and encouraging presence
Desired Qualifications:
- Fluent in American Sign Language (essential)
- School setting or special education experience preferred
- Experience with deaf/hard of hearing students is a plus
- EIPA/RID certification appreciated but not required
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Ability to balance academic and social-emotional support for children
Whether you’re an experienced interpreter, paraprofessional, or instructional assistant, this is a chance to use your skills in a meaningful way—helping a student thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
If you have a passion for empowering children and expertise in ASL, apply today and take the next step in making a tangible difference in a young student’s school journey.
