In this role, you’ll provide dedicated, one-on-one support to an elementary-aged student who is deaf/hard of hearing, going beyond standard interpreting to foster genuine communication, inclusion, and growth. You’ll become a vital part of the student’s daily experience, collaborating closely with teachers and specialists while learning new strategies and broadening your perspective on inclusive education. What We’re Looking For:
- Fluent ASL skills (essential requirement)
- Preferred: Previous experience with students in school/special education settings
- Experience supporting deaf/hard of hearing students is a plus
- Ability to deliver ASL communication and hands-on educational support in a 1:1 environment
- Patient, warm, encouraging attitude working with children
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
- EIPA or RID certification valued but not required
Key Responsibilities:
- Consistently provide 1:1 support throughout the school day
- Use fluent ASL for all educational, social, and behavioral interactions
- Break down academic concepts and assist with participation and engagement
- Provide visual/communication support, including AAC as needed
