Utilizing your expertise in American Sign Language, you will be vital in ensuring deaf and hard-of-hearing students have equal access to classroom instruction. Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required; SLI certification highly preferred
- Experience interpreting in K-12 educational environments
- Strong collaboration skills and adaptability within a team setting
- Understanding of deaf culture and best practices in educational interpreting
- Reliability and commitment to the entire school year assignment
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) during classroom lessons, school meetings, and activities
- Partner with teachers to facilitate instructional content for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
- Support students' understanding of academic material, social interactions, and school procedures
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards at all times
- Adapt interpreting methods to meet the unique needs of individual learners and settings
