Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required; SLI certification highly preferred
  • Experience interpreting in K-12 educational environments
  • Strong collaboration skills and adaptability within a team setting
  • Understanding of deaf culture and best practices in educational interpreting
  • Reliability and commitment to the entire school year assignment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) during classroom lessons, school meetings, and activities
  • Partner with teachers to facilitate instructional content for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
  • Support students' understanding of academic material, social interactions, and school procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards at all times
  • Adapt interpreting methods to meet the unique needs of individual learners and settings
