ASL Language Facilitator

Location: Sturgis, MI Area
Pay: $25.80–$32.50 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time | Full School Year

Position Overview

We are seeking a fluent American Sign Language (ASL) Language Facilitator to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a school-based setting.

The Language Facilitator provides direct language instruction to students through one-on-one or small-group support. This position works closely with teachers and school personnel to help students develop language, communication, comprehension, and self-advocacy skills.

This is not an Interpreter role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience working as a Language Facilitator
  • Previous experience working with students who have experienced language deprivation
  • Ability to read and comprehend written program plans, instructions, and classroom materials
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain all required trainings, certificates, approvals, and documentation
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Reliable attendance and the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position
  • Must be physically present at the designated school site each scheduled workday

Performance Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers and other school personnel to ensure students' educational and communication needs are being met
  • Monitor student comprehension and provide instructional and behavioral reinforcement under the direction of the classroom teacher
  • Introduce and explain vocabulary and reinforce classroom instruction
  • Repeat and clarify classroom concepts as needed to support student understanding
  • Foster appropriate classroom communication strategies
  • Support students in developing self-advocacy and communication skills
  • Assist teachers and administrators with duties that enhance the classroom environment without interfering with primary language-facilitation responsibilities
  • Provide individualized or small-group language support based on student needs
  • Maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
