Key qualifications:
- Hold the EIPA NJ certification standard, meeting all state requirements for educational interpreting.
- Experienced in both interpreting and transliterating in educational settings.
- Skilled in American Sign Language (ASL) with a demonstrated ability to facilitate clear, effective communication.
- Professionalism and discretion when working one-on-one, maintaining confidentiality and supporting student goals.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of a diverse learner and work collaboratively with educators and school staff.
Primary responsibilities:
- Provide direct sign language interpretation services for a single student, ensuring seamless communication between the student, peers, and teachers.
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities.
- Support the student’s understanding of material and encourage participation in classroom activities.
- Maintain professionalism and act as an advocate for student accessibility throughout the school day.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to prepare for classes and ensure all materials are accessible.
Assignment details:
- Full-time, contract position.
- Hours: 9:00 AM–3:45 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Assignment continues until 6/25.
- Focused caseload, working consistently with one student for specialized support.
