Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter.
  • Previous experience working with children or within educational settings strongly preferred.
  • Ability to adapt interpreting styles to different age groups and classroom activities.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical interpreting practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, activities, and meetings.
  • Facilitate clear, accurate communication between students, teachers, and staff.
  • Support students' access to curriculum, extracurricular events, and school functions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure consistent interpretive support.
  • Contribute to a welcoming and accessible environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Maintain punctuality, documentation, and confidentiality as required by school protocols.
