A contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support an educational setting in Chicago, IL. This role involves facilitating effective communication between hearing-impaired students and their peers, teachers, and staff, ensuring an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure accurate and effective communication.
- Attend meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-related events to provide interpreting services as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Adapt communication styles to meet the individual needs of students.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting experience in educational settings.
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and communication strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and patience in diverse classroom settings.
- Prior experience in K-12 education preferred.
Location: Chicago, IL (on-site assignment)
