A full-time opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support an elementary student with deafness and additional visual impairment in a school setting near Chicago, IL. This 1:1 interpreting role is ideal for a professional experienced in American Sign Language (ASL) and working collaboratively within educational teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized sign language interpreting services to a student with dual sensory needs (deafness and visual impairment).
- Collaborate closely with the educational team to develop and implement strategies that enhance the student’s visual access.
- Model ASL language consistently, supporting a student who is relatively new to American Sign Language.
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, educators, and peers to ensure full participation in the classroom environment.
- Maintain a supportive and adaptive learning environment responsive to the student’s unique needs.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and experience interpreting in educational settings.
- Understanding of visual impairments and strategies to promote visual access for students.
- Ability to work 1:1 with students requiring specialized support.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills for collaborative engagement with educators and support staff.
- Prior experience with students new to ASL is highly preferred.

- Elementary school outside Chicago, IL, in a suburban environment near Northbrook.
