Step into a dynamic educational environment, supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter for a full academic year. This contract position offers the chance to work near Chicago, IL, making a meaningful impact for early childhood through third-grade students in both mainstream and specialized DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) settings. You’ll assist different students throughout the day and collaborate closely with general educators and service providers, ensuring communication access and fostering inclusive learning.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpretation skills
- Experience working in educational settings, preferably with EC-3rd grade students
- Knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of DHH students
- Ability to interpret in both mainstream and specialized classroom environments
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with teachers, support staff, and service providers
- Commitment to supporting student learning and inclusion
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students in early childhood through third grade across mainstream and DHH-focused classrooms
- Adapt interpretations to individual student needs and various subject matters throughout the day
- Work in partnership with general educators, DHH instructors, and other school service providers
- Support clear communication during daily instruction, group activities, and individualized support sessions
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and high ethical standards in all interactions
- Assist with any additional communication needs to ensure equitable access for students
This assignment runs from July 29 to May 25, with hours from 8:05 am to 3:35 pm, following the school’s academic calendar.
