Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Chico, California

Enhance educational access for deaf and hard of hearing students in a dynamic school setting as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time, on-site position offers approximately 30 hours weekly, with a commitment to supporting students from middle through high school levels. Your expertise will foster inclusive learning environments and help bridge communication among students, teachers, and school staff.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficient in American Sign Language and capable of both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
• Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a score of 4.0 or above on EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments
• Candidates considered with EIPA under 4.0 (will be designated as ASL Para)
• Experience facilitating communication for deaf or hard of hearing students in educational settings is highly valued
• Ability to support student learning in academic and vocational/living skills subjects
• Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality
• Preference for working with middle or high school students can be accommodated

Responsibilities:

• Provide interpreting services between deaf/hard of hearing students and their peers, teachers, and other school personnel
• Assist students with academic tasks such as reading, writing, and math
• Support students during classroom instruction and school-related activities, including outdoors or in the community
• Contribute to an inclusive environment that respects all forms of communication
• Collaborate effectively with educational staff to meet individual student needs
