Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other recognized sign systems
- Experience interpreting in school-based or educational environments preferred
- Familiarity with IEPs, educational terminology, and classroom culture
- Ability to interpret both expressive and receptive communication clearly and accurately
- Strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and a collaborative approach
- Relevant certification or licensure as required by state guidelines
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken languages into ASL and vice versa during classes, meetings, assemblies, and school activities
- Work closely with students, teachers, and educational staff to facilitate full participation in academic and social settings
- Adapt interpreting techniques to various age groups, content levels, and learning needs
- Maintain confidentiality and support a positive, respectful environment
- Provide feedback and consult with the educational team to best meet student needs
- Support students in expressing and understanding concepts related to curriculum and daily school routines
