Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Cicero, Illinois

Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the full academic year in a vibrant elementary setting. This contract opportunity spans from July 29 through May 25, placing you at the heart of early childhood to third grade learning environments. Your expertise will be vital in facilitating communication for a diverse group of students, including those in mainstream classes as well as in specialized Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) settings.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with dedicated service providers and educators, ensuring access and inclusion across a variety of classroom experiences throughout the day. You’ll play a key part in empowering young learners to engage in instruction, build confidence, and reach their highest potential.

Qualifications and Experience Needed:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with educational interpreting practices
• Experience working with children, especially in a school or early learning setting
• Ability to adapt interpreting style for both 1:1 and group situations (mainstream, DHH classrooms, with service providers)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, working effectively with students, staff, and families
• Relevant certification or licensure for educational interpreting as required

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time, accurate sign language interpretation for EC-3rd grade students throughout the school day
• Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment for all students
• Collaborate with mainstream and DHH educators, therapists, and other service providers
• Assist in adapting communication strategies based on individual student needs

This full-time, contract position follows a standard school schedule, 8:05 am to 3:35 pm, Monday through Friday.
