Sign Language Interpreter in Cicero, IL

Step into a vital role supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing at a satellite program serving grades 5-8. This contract opportunity runs during standard school hours, 8:15 am – 3:00 pm, and centers on providing sign language interpretation within a dynamic educational environment. You’ll work closely with students in a DHH classroom and accompany them to mainstream general education classes as well as sessions for related services such as occupational therapy and social work, helping to facilitate seamless communication and full participation.

Key Qualifications:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and ability to adapt interpretation to a range of academic and social settings
• Experience interpreting in school settings, preferably with students in upper elementary or junior high (grades 5-8)
• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or evidence of completed interpreter training program
• Strong collaboration skills to partner with teachers, service providers, and other support staff
• Professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to providing an inclusive learning environment

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver accurate real-time sign language interpretation between students and teachers in both DHH and general education classrooms
• Support communication for students during therapy and related services sessions
• Ensure that educational content is conveyed accessibly and appropriately at the grade level required
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for educational interpreting
