Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Cicero, Illinois

Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in an engaging junior high school environment. Located near Cicero, IL, this position offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact as a Sign Language Interpreter within a satellite program. This role is essential to ensuring access and inclusivity for students in grades 5-8, both in DHH-specific classrooms and mainstream general education settings.

Your day will follow the school's schedule, from 8:15 am to 3:00 pm, working alongside dedicated educators and service providers. You'll accompany students to their general education classes, interpret for them during lessons, as well as during related services including occupational therapy and social work sessions. Your skills will be vital in empowering students to fully participate and thrive academically and socially.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong receptive/expressive interpreting ability
• Experience interpreting in educational settings, especially with students in grades 5-8
• Familiarity with interpreting for multiple settings, including classroom instruction and related services
• Ability to adapt communication style to individual student needs
• Professional certification (such as EIPA, RID, or state credentials) preferred
• Demonstrated sensitivity and respect for Deaf culture and student diversity

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate, clear interpretation between spoken English and ASL for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
• Accompany and support students in general education and special services sessions
• Foster communication access during instruction, group work, and individual therapy
• Collaborate with teachers, service providers, and staff to optimize learning experiences
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards at all times
