Qualifications & Experience:
- Certified proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in a school environment
- Ability to interpret spoken English into ASL and vice versa accurately and efficiently
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt communication styles according to different age groups and educational needs
- Understanding of confidentiality and sensitivity when working with student populations
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, assemblies, extracurricular activities, and meetings as needed for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure all instructional content is accessible
- Support students’ full participation in classroom discussion and activities
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant subject materials ahead of time
- Maintain professional conduct while fostering a welcoming environment for students
