Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with relevant interpreting experience in educational settings
  • Certification from recognized interpreting bodies (NIC, EIPA, or state equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of deaf and hard-of-hearing student needs in K-12 environments
  • Ability to interpret expressively and receptively between ASL and English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
  • Adaptability for varying schedules and assignments across multiple school locations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, staff, and peers by interpreting spoken language to ASL and vice versa
  • Support instruction and classroom activities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students across varying grade levels
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards set by national and state interpreter organizations
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure inclusive learning
  • Document services delivered as required by the district’s procedures
