This travel-based role involves partnering with schools in Colorado Springs, CO, to facilitate effective communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ensuring they have equal access to educational opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret school lectures, conversations, and events from spoken English to sign language and vice versa
- Assist in classrooms, meetings, and extracurricular activities, supporting students, teachers, and staff
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Collaborate with educators and support teams to best meet students’ communication needs
- Adapt interpretation techniques to different age groups and learning environments
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of Deaf culture
- Experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
- Ability to travel to various schools within the Colorado Springs region as assignments require
