Step into a rewarding, contract role supporting student success as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter in a vibrant school setting near Cornelia, GA. This position provides dedicated 1:1 assistance for a 7th grade student who is completely deaf and has limited vision, empowering her learning experience within a self-contained classroom. You’ll work closely with a collaborative team of educators, ensuring clear, effective communication and meaningful participation throughout the school day.
Position Overview:
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
- Option for a traditional 5-day schedule or a flexible 2-day (Tuesday/Wednesday) arrangement
- Serve as a personal ASL interpreter for a middle school student
- Work alongside teachers and support staff within the classroom to facilitate inclusion and access
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL); Sign Language Interpreter certification required
- Experience interpreting in educational or pediatric settings strongly preferred
- Comfort adapting to students with additional needs, including low vision
- Outgoing, engaging personality with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to foster a supportive and communicative learning environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct ASL interpretation for all classroom activities, assignments, and social interactions
- Adapt communication strategies for a student with both hearing and visual challenges
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to implement best practices
