Qualifications and Experience:

  • Two years of college (minimum 72 credits in academic coursework), an Associate’s Degree or higher, or a passing score on the Highly Qualified exam is required
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with demonstrated experience interpreting in academic environments
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and fostering an inclusive learning environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience working in school settings or with middle school students is a plus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation services during classroom instruction, school events, and meetings to facilitate effective communication for students with hearing impairments
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and special education professionals to support individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Foster student engagement and inclusion both in the classroom and during extra-curricular activities
  • Adapt interpretation style and vocabulary to fit student needs and developmental level
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality standards at all times
