This contract position is perfect for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter interested in making a daily impact within a Head Start program. As the primary interpreter for a student with hearing loss, you'll foster communication access, bridge educational opportunities, and collaborate with a nurturing team of educators.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience providing interpretation in educational or school settings
  • Comfortable working 1:1 with children, especially in early childhood programs
  • Ability to facilitate engagement in classroom activities and routines
  • Professional certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred

Core Responsibilities:

  • Offer in-person sign language interpretation for a single DHH student to ensure full participation in lessons and classroom interactions
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to adapt assignments and activities as needed for language accessibility
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of interpreting
  • Help foster an inclusive, supportive learning atmosphere for student success
  • Provide clear, accurate communication between student, educators, and peers throughout the school day

Position Details:

  • On-site interpretation at a centrally located Head Start center
  • Consistent daytime hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., totaling 30 hours per week
  • Work directly with a highly supportive educational team dedicated to early childhood education
