Key Qualifications:

  • Valid IL Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) Score of 3.4 or higher
  • Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in educational or school settings
  • Strong understanding of student-centered interpreting strategies, particularly when working with students who have residual hearing
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student advocacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa for a middle school student within classroom and school settings
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to facilitate the student’s access to instruction, discussions, and activities
  • Support the student’s academic and social engagement through effective communication tactics
  • Monitor and adapt interpreting techniques to fit the student’s individual needs and classroom dynamics
  • Maintain accurate documentation as required by school policy
