Key Qualifications:
- Valid IL Professional Educator License (PEL)
- EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) Score of 3.4 or higher
- Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in educational or school settings
- Strong understanding of student-centered interpreting strategies, particularly when working with students who have residual hearing
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student advocacy
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa for a middle school student within classroom and school settings
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to facilitate the student’s access to instruction, discussions, and activities
- Support the student’s academic and social engagement through effective communication tactics
- Monitor and adapt interpreting techniques to fit the student’s individual needs and classroom dynamics
- Maintain accurate documentation as required by school policy
