Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Crystal Lake, Illinois

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of high school students by using your sign language expertise in supportive educational settings. Two rewarding part-time opportunities are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters seeking to provide exceptional classroom access.

Roles available:

• Burlington, IL: High school, part-time (.35 FTE, 12:30–3:00 pm, Monday–Friday) providing interpretation for a high school student. Assignment runs ASAP through May 21, 2027.
• Harvard, IL: High school, part-time (0.5 FTE, 11:00 am–3:00 pm, Monday–Friday) supporting a high school student within a mainstream classroom environment. Assignment runs ASAP through May 30, 2027.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 3.5 EIPA & ISBE certification required, or a 3.0+ EIPA score with ISBE approval.
• Demonstrated experience in educational or classroom interpreting, preferably at the high school level.
• Strong communication, flexibility, and professionalism to collaborate within school teams.
• Commitment to supporting students’ access and engagement in all classroom activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken English and sign language for students, teachers, and peers during all assigned class sessions.
• Foster inclusion and facilitate clear communication in both one-on-one and group settings.
• Adapt interpretation approach to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to enhance student educational experiences.
