Make a meaningful impact by supporting a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom setting as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter. This part-time, contract opportunity is perfect for those passionate about fostering communication and educational access for students with unique needs. The role involves working onsite on Fridays, supporting a student who utilizes Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and is transitioning back to a mainstream setting after attending a Residential Day School Program. As part of a job share, you’ll collaborate with another language facilitator covering Mondays through Thursdays.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience interpreting in educational environments
- Experience supporting students with hearing devices such as Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and ALD systems
- Comfortable working with high-school age students, particularly those in behavioral classroom settings
- Ability to collaborate with other professionals and substitute when needed
- Current licensure and the ability to provide proof of certification
- Previous experience as a Language Facilitator or Sign Language Interpreter is highly valued
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, ensuring accessibility during all designated instructional periods
- Adapt interpreting methods to meet the needs of a student whose primary mode of communication is ASL, but identifies as hearing
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and the secondary language facilitator to provide consistent support
- Step in as a substitute during the absence of the other Language Facilitator when required
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
