Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Danbury, Connecticut

Bring your passion for connecting with students through American Sign Language to a highly diverse school community for the 2026-2027 academic year. This contract opportunity, located near Danbury, CT, offers a rewarding full-time position supporting student success through expert ASL facilitation and interpretation. Two full-time roles are available, each providing 32.5 hours per week beginning August 27, 2026, and concluding June 11, 2027.

You’ll work one-on-one with either a preschooler or a 5th grader, collaborating closely with teachers, support staff, and families to foster language development and comprehension. Expect a collaborative environment where your insights help determine the best student match during an initial virtual interview with a Director and a Teacher of the Deaf.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
• Experience working in a school setting is highly preferred
• RID certification or EIPA score is a plus, but open to fluent candidates without certification
• Comfort engaging students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
• Strong communication skills; collaborative work style
• Patient, supportive, and motivated to grow students’ vocabularies and academic comprehension

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate ASL communication and support 1:1 learning for your assigned student
• Provide tutoring, guidance, and language development tailored to individual needs
• Ensure material comprehension and build student ASL vocabulary
• Partner with teachers and school staff to ensure seamless academic support
• Contribute to an inclusive, student-focused classroom environment
