Bring your passion for connecting with students through American Sign Language to a highly diverse school community for the 2026-2027 academic year. This contract opportunity, located near Danbury, CT, offers a rewarding full-time position supporting student success through expert ASL facilitation and interpretation. Two full-time roles are available, each providing 32.5 hours per week beginning August 27, 2026, and concluding June 11, 2027.
You’ll work one-on-one with either a preschooler or a 5th grader, collaborating closely with teachers, support staff, and families to foster language development and comprehension. Expect a collaborative environment where your insights help determine the best student match during an initial virtual interview with a Director and a Teacher of the Deaf.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
- Experience working in a school setting is highly preferred
- RID certification or EIPA score is a plus, but open to fluent candidates without certification
- Comfort engaging students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Strong communication skills; collaborative work style
- Patient, supportive, and motivated to grow students’ vocabularies and academic comprehension
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate ASL communication and support 1:1 learning for your assigned student
- Provide tutoring, guidance, and language development tailored to individual needs
- Ensure material comprehension and build student ASL vocabulary
- Partner with teachers and school staff to ensure seamless academic support
