Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Danbury, CT

Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students as an ASL Language Facilitator in a vibrant and diverse district near Danbury, CT. This contract position runs ASAP through June 11, 2027 and offers a full-time schedule (32.5 hours per week). In this specialized role, you'll provide 1:1 support to a preschool student—or potentially another student based on your experience and fit as determined during the first virtual interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf.

You'll facilitate communication, support comprehension of classroom material, and tutor students to build their American Sign Language (ASL) vocabulary. Collaborating with an experienced educational team in a culturally rich urban environment, you'll play a vital part in student success and inclusion.

What we’re looking for:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or Paraprofessional, ideally in a school setting
• Background working with children, with a passion for nurturing communication skills
• RID and/or EIPA certification preferred (but not required)
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Flexibility regarding age range of student(s), as specific placement is determined by your background and the school team

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering direct ASL interpretation and facilitation in the classroom
• Working one-on-one with students to ensure comprehension and growth in ASL
• Tutoring students to enhance their vocabulary and understanding of classroom content
• Collaborating with teachers and specialists to adapt instruction to each student’s needs
