Key Qualifications & Experience:
- State certification or licensure required for Sign Language Interpreters in educational settings
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting for children in a school environment preferred
- Understanding of elementary education and child development
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families in support of student growth
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical interpreting practices
- Reliability and a professional demeanor for full-time, on-site work
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, real-time sign language interpretation between the student and peers, teachers, and staff
- Foster an inclusive classroom experience by facilitating clear communication access
- Support the student's engagement in academic lessons, activities, and social interactions
- Adapt interpreting techniques as needed for comprehension and accessibility
- Participate in team meetings, contributing insights to further the success of the student
- Document daily activity and communication as required
