What you'll bring:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially within educational settings
  • Ability to interpret classroom instruction, activities, and peer interactions
  • Strong communication skills with both hearing and Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individuals
  • Patience, empathy, and genuine commitment to supporting student learning
  • Certification/licensure as required by state guidelines

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time interpreting for a 5th-grade student during academic lessons and school activities
  • Facilitate communication between the student, classmates, teachers, and staff
  • Adapt interpreting methods to accommodate various classroom settings and student needs
  • Work closely with educators and support personnel to ensure the student’s full participation
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for student information
  • Participate in meetings as needed to enhance student support
