Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Hold national certification (such as EIPA, RID, or NIC), or meet state credentialing requirements
- Prior experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
- Flexibility to work with students of various ages, from elementary to high school
- Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism in collaborative team contexts
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and extra-curricular events
- Ensure effective two-way communication between students, teachers, and staff
- Adapt interpreting strategies to meet individual student needs and learning styles
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines for interpreters
- Actively contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when appropriate
- Collaborate with educators and support services to enhance student engagement and inclusion
