Key Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven proficiency in both receptive and expressive interpretation
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score as required by state guidelines or national certification (RID or equivalent)
- Experience providing sign language interpretation in a K–12 school or educational environment is highly preferred
- Ability to interpret in a variety of academic and extracurricular settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and meetings
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and professional ethics related to interpreting
- Adaptability, patience, and a commitment to inclusive education
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) to support effective communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Assist teachers by translating lectures, instructions, and class discussions
- Foster and maintain clear, respectful, and supportive communication among students, teachers, and staff
- Prepare for interpreting assignments by reviewing lesson materials and collaborating with educational teams
- Support students’ social interaction during both academic and non-academic activities
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
