Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong expressive and receptive skills
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally within an educational environment
- Understanding of the interpreter’s role in a classroom and familiarity with IEPs and educational terminology
- Ability to collaborate professionally with staff, students, and families
- Relevant certification, such as EIPA score, RID, or recognized state credentials (or willingness to obtain as required)
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities from spoken English to ASL and vice versa
- Support students in both mainstream and small-group settings
- Facilitate effective communication between teachers, staff, students, and parents
- Adapt interpreting styles to meet the unique needs of each student and situation
- Assist with school functions, assemblies, and extracurricular activities when required
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with educators to foster an inclusive learning atmosphere
