Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong expressive and receptive skills
  • Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally within an educational environment
  • Understanding of the interpreter’s role in a classroom and familiarity with IEPs and educational terminology
  • Ability to collaborate professionally with staff, students, and families
  • Relevant certification, such as EIPA score, RID, or recognized state credentials (or willingness to obtain as required)
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities from spoken English to ASL and vice versa
  • Support students in both mainstream and small-group settings
  • Facilitate effective communication between teachers, staff, students, and parents
  • Adapt interpreting styles to meet the unique needs of each student and situation
  • Assist with school functions, assemblies, and extracurricular activities when required
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with educators to foster an inclusive learning atmosphere
