Step into an impactful role supporting elementary students as a contract Sign Language Interpreter in a thriving educational community. This assignment focuses on facilitating communication and enhancing learning opportunities for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. You’ll immerse yourself in classroom life, working onsite at an elementary school with a welcoming staff and uplifting environment.

This opportunity is entirely onsite, Monday through Friday, with two possible schedules: full days (7:45am-3:15pm) or afternoons (11:00am-3:15pm), so you can find the fit that best matches your availability. This position spans the full academic year, from mid-August through late May.

Key Qualifications:

  • Qualified to interpret in K-5 school settings using American Sign Language
  • Holds, or is eligible for, appropriate state licensure; candidates with a provisional license accepted if EIPA score is below 4.0
  • Experienced working with children preferred
  • Clear, professional communication skills with both students and staff
  • Committed to in-person, onsite work throughout the contract term

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction and activities
  • Enable access to educational materials by bridging communication
  • Foster participation and engagement for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, specialists, and families to support each child’s learning
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district policies
  • Uphold the ethical standards of interpreting within educational environments
