Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a middle school student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing as their dedicated Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) runs through May 27th, 2027. The assignment is within a reputable school environment, either at Tanglewood Middle School or Beck International Academy in Greenville, SC. Scheduling will align with the partner school—hours are approximately 8:00 am–3:45 pm or 8:15 am–3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
As the one-on-one interpreter, you will accompany a transfer student from Colorado throughout the school day in mainstream classes, supporting communication access and educational engagement. Outside of a 70-minute period with the student’s DHH teacher for IEP services, you serve as their consistent aid and advocate in the classroom.
Key Qualifications:
- Hold an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or above
- Successfully pass the written EIPA exam
- Possess at minimum a high school diploma
- Able to pass a background check
- Willing to sign and adhere to the Sign Language Interpreter Code of Ethics during onboarding
- Familiarity with K-12 interpreting standards and experience working with students in educational settings is highly valued
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear, accurate interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language in general education and school activities
- Support student engagement, comprehension, and independence
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, DHH staff, and other professionals
