Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with recent experience interpreting in school environments
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score or RID/NAD certification preferred
  • Understanding of Deaf culture and educational interpreting practices
  • Ability to adapt interpreting techniques to varied learning settings, including classrooms and one-on-one sessions
  • Strong interpersonal skills—patient, compassionate, and professional
  • High school diploma required; post-secondary or interpreter training program completion is a plus

Role Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities to ensure accurate and effective communication for Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students
  • Facilitate communication between students, staff, and peers using ASL and/or other communication modes as needed
  • Support educational goals by interpreting during group work, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events
  • Assist with preparation of instructional materials when needed to support student inclusion
  • Maintain confidentiality while adhering to the highest ethical standards
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote understanding and best practices for communication access
