We’re seeking a dedicated professional to provide in-person sign language interpreting services to a high school student who is deaf. This full-time, contract opportunity runs the entire school year and is vital in supporting a student who recently transitioned into the district. After a year of substitutes, both the student and staff are eager for a consistent, in-person interpreter dedicated to this role—your presence will be truly valued in fostering meaningful connections and academic success.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven experience in educational settings
- Ability to interpret effectively between students, teachers, and staff
- Previous experience working with high school-aged students is highly desirable
- Familiarity with IEPs and collaborating with special education teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
- Commitment to professional ethics and maintaining student confidentiality
- Certification or licensure as required by state or national interpreting standards
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpretation between English and ASL in classroom and school-related activities
- Support the student’s inclusion in academic, social, and extracurricular settings
- Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and specialists
- Adapt interpreting techniques to suit various learning environments and activities
