Key Experience & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational settings
- Ability to interpret simultaneously and consecutively in academic and school-related contexts
- Familiarity with a variety of communication styles and techniques in diverse classroom environments
- National or state certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent) is preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach
- Professionalism, discretion, and reliability in working with students and staff of all ages
Primary Duties:
- Interpret spoken communication into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities
- Support communication between teachers, students, and other school personnel district-wide
- Facilitate understanding and engagement during lessons, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events
- Collaborate with educational teams to ensure the needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing are met
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to interpreting best practices and ethical guidelines
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing materials and terminology relevant to classes or activities
