You'll serve as a vital resource in classrooms and throughout the district, enabling participation and fostering an inclusive educational environment.

Key Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational settings
  • Ability to interpret simultaneously and consecutively in academic and school-related contexts
  • Familiarity with a variety of communication styles and techniques in diverse classroom environments
  • National or state certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent) is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach
  • Professionalism, discretion, and reliability in working with students and staff of all ages

Primary Duties:

  • Interpret spoken communication into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Support communication between teachers, students, and other school personnel district-wide
  • Facilitate understanding and engagement during lessons, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events
  • Collaborate with educational teams to ensure the needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing are met
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to interpreting best practices and ethical guidelines
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing materials and terminology relevant to classes or activities
