This contract assignment spans the 2026–2027 academic year, offering you the chance to support student communication and engagement as a valued member of a school-based team near Elgin, IL. Positions are available for one or two professionals committed to fostering inclusive learning environments.
What we’re seeking:
- Proficiency as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) with experience in K-12 schools preferred
- Certification as an educational interpreter or relevant state credentials
- Ability to interpret in both individual and group classroom settings
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working collaboratively with teachers, school staff, and families
- Flexibility to adjust to diverse classroom environments and student needs
Key responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students, staff, and families as needed during the school day
- Facilitate clear communication between Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students and their peers, teachers, and school personnel
- Support student participation in academic and extracurricular activities from August 19, 2026, through early June, 2027
- Adhere to established ethical codes regarding student confidentiality and professional conduct
- Adapt interpreting style and methods to varied classroom content and age groups
- Contribute to fostering a welcoming, accessible, and equitable learning environment
