Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Elgin, Illinois

Make a meaningful impact by supporting students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in vibrant educational settings. We're seeking skilled Sign Language Interpreters who are passionate about accessibility and student success to work full-time in nearby school programs. This is a contract opportunity and offers the chance to work closely with both students and staff to ensure effective communication and inclusion throughout the school day.

Openings are available in middle and elementary school environments, each offering the valuable chance to support students in either mainstream or self-contained settings. Assignments begin as soon as possible and extend through May 2027, with three full-time positions available.

Desired Qualifications:

• Valid ISBE certification or 3.0+ EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) with ISBE approval, or 3.5 EIPA or above
• Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Prior interpreting experience in educational or school environments
• Ability to build supportive relationships with students, educators, and families
• Strong sense of professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural competence

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken and signed communication for students and staff during classroom activities, meetings, and school events
• Foster an inclusive learning environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
• Adapt interpretations for varied classroom settings (mainstream or self-contained)
• Collaborate with special education teams and teachers to support student progress
• Assist in modifying classroom materials as needed for accessibility
