Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI), or actively pursuing certification
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledgeable about Deaf culture
- Prior experience in school or educational settings preferred, but not required
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
- Professionalism, reliability, and a collaborative spirit
- Ability to adapt to diverse student needs and classroom environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, teachers, and staff
- Facilitate communication during classroom instruction, assignments, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with educators and special education teams to support student IEPs and accommodations
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all scenarios
- Assist with gathering more details about interpreting needs and expectations for the assignment
- Contribute to fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment for all participants
