Make a direct impact in the life of an elementary-aged student who is deaf/hard of hearing by using your fluent ASL skills in a one-on-one, whole-child support role. In this contract opportunity, you’ll work closely with a student who has mild cognitive delays, serving as both an interpreter and an educational assistant throughout the school day.

As an integral part of the educational team, your ASL fluency will provide more than access to instruction — you’ll offer consistent communication, behavioral guidance, and social-emotional support. The right fit for this position is a compassionate professional eager to form a positive connection while helping the student thrive in and out of the classroom.

Key Qualifications:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential
  • Experience with students who are deaf/hard of hearing and/or special education preferred
  • Knowledge of visual supports (visual schedules, AAC/communication boards, sensory breaks) is helpful
  • Patient, warm, and supportive approach to working with children
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Preference given to candidates with EIPA or RID certification, but these are not required

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 educational and communication support using fluent ASL
  • Facilitate access to classroom instruction, peer interaction, and school routines
  • Rephrase and explain academic concepts, support attention and transitions
  • Encourage participation and build social/communication skills
  • Collaborate with educators, related service providers, and the student’s IEP team
  • Offer a positive presence, ensuring the student feels understood and included

This role allows you to become a trusted ally and advocate for a young learner, helping her access education and social opportunities in meaningful ways.

Embrace a role where your ASL expertise makes a daily difference. Submit your application today to help foster success, confidence, and belonging in a school community.

Compensation for this position ranges from $29.69 to $49.69. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
