Qualifications:

  • EIPA score of 2.5 or higher, or a related degree with demonstrated fluency in ASL (an interpreting demonstration will be required during the interview)
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Paraprofessional in educational settings is highly desirable
  • Comprehensive understanding of Deaf culture and a commitment to facilitating inclusive learning
  • Effective communication skills, both in ASL and English, with an empathetic and professional approach
  • Ability to collaborate with educators, specialists, and families to best support the student’s needs

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-on-one interpreting services for a deaf student in the classroom and throughout the school day
  • Ensure clear, accurate, and confidential interpretation of lesson content, discussions, and school activities
  • Tailor interpreting techniques to match the student’s comprehension and communication style
  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide seamless integration within the general education curriculum
  • Assist in fostering the student’s self-advocacy, confidence, and participation in both academic and social aspects of school
