Your ability to interpret for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing will help bridge vital connections with peers, staff, and classroom content. Collaborate closely with educators and related service providers as you facilitate a positive, accessible environment for all.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with Signed English or other forms of communication as needed 
  • Previous experience as a sign language interpreter in educational settings preferred
  • Possession of nationally-recognized interpreter certification (such as EIPA, RID, or NAD), or eligibility to obtain appropriate credentialing
  • Understanding of classroom protocols and educational terminology
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adaptable to changing classroom needs
  • Professional, responsible, and committed to confidentiality

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, staff, and parents across instructional and school-related activities
  • Support students’ academic participation by interpreting lectures, directions, class discussions, and events
  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists to ensure communication access that matches individual student needs
  • Maintain ethical standards of practice, including confidentiality and impartiality
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful classroom culture
