Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Evergreen, AL

Two full-time contract opportunities are available for talented Sign Language Interpreters eager to provide exceptional service onsite at local schools near Evergreen, AL for the 2023-2024 academic year.

First role: Work across three schools with students in grades K-12. Second role: Focus on one elementary school, supporting students grades K-4.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in school settings strongly preferred
• Familiarity with K-12 and/or K-4 learning environments
• National or state interpreter certification desired
• Ability to work collaboratively with educators, staff, students, and families
• Strong sense of professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural competence

Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, assemblies, meetings, and school events accurately and effectively
• Support communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff
• Facilitate full access to educational content, social interactions, and school activities
• Collaborate with teachers and specialists to promote inclusive teaching practices
• Maintain accurate records and adhere to school and district policies
• Foster an environment where all students can thrive academically and socially
