An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support middle school students in Federal Way, WA. This full-time position (6.5 hours per day) is a contract assignment spanning the current school year, starting as soon as possible through June 16, 2026. The role involves interpreting in a middle school educational environment, facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers and peers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear and accurate sign language interpretation to support student learning and participation in classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure effective communication access.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development relevant to deaf education and interpreting.
  • Complete required documentation and reports as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred.
  • Ability to interpret effectively for middle school students.
  • Must have an EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score or demonstrate willingness to obtain certification during the school year.
  • Flexibility to take the EIPA written and performance exams; a certified state proctor within the district can administer these assessments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with school personnel and students.
